It is with great sadness and feeling of deep loss that we highlight the premature death of Mr. Dalchand (Neil Rampaul), Chief College Laboratory Technician and valued colleague in Natural Sciences. In 1978, Neil decade’s long association with Baruch College began when he was first hired as an Adjunct College Laboratory Technician. In June of 1979, Neil obtained his BA degree in Biology from Baruch College and joined Baruch Full time. By 1994, Neil was Chief College Laboratory Technician of Natural Sciences. Letters of support from many faculty members describe the amazing breadth of his work. He was responsible for preparing laboratory classes at all levels of Biology and for Environmental Studies. He was an expert at repairing equipment. He handled all aspects of purchasing supplies and equipment for the four areas of the department. He was a partner to faculty members in testing new experiments and making them work within the time-span of a laboratory class and within the constraints of Baruch’s facilities. He had an excellent rapport with Administrative departments such as Purchasing and Accounts Payable, including these areas as not only colleagues but also friends. Students and faculty alike will always remember Neil for his dedication, diligence, and good humor. Even when two technicians’ positions were lost, Neil accomplished everything with only the help of student aides and adjunct assistance. For Neil, dedication to and love of his chosen career were key; students, faculty and friends alike will miss him dearly.
